Fire

Abu Dhabi Tour, stage 1
Organizers cancel finishing circuit as riders’ computers register temperatures over 120 degrees Fahrenheit at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Tour in October. The World Championships will be there next fall.

Wind

Gent-Wevelgem
Gusts over 55 miles per hour, riders leaning at 30-degree angles, Geraint Thomas blown into a ditch, bikes blown into canals. Ah, spring in Belgium.

Water

Tirreno-Adriatico, stage 5

Earth

Tour of Alberta, stage 5
The 56 scheduled kilometers of dirt roads were trimmed to just 18 after the brutal weather created mud bogs that would have given Sven Nys pause. The stage was neutralized after a car led several riders off course, but we’re guessing some of them were just looking for an excuse to get out of their soaking wet kits a bit sooner.
