Preview: 2016 Giro d’Italia — Stage 19
Pinerolo to Risoul, France
Friday, May 27
161 kilometers
Stage 19 heads to France, weather permitting, via the interminable Colle dell’Agnello (in French, the Col d’Agnel), at 9,002 feet, the highest climb in the 2016 Giro d’Italia and, as such, the Cima Coppi. As Europe’s third highest mountain pass, it normally opens in June but will be climbed on May 27. The finale to Risoul last featured in the 2014 Tour de France. The 12.8-kilometer climb, averaging 6.9 percent, grinds up a steady, regular road and will prove decisive enough to tease apart the lead contenders from those off their form.
