The Union Cycliste International (UCI) has announced that equal prize money will be introduced for the Men Elite and Women Elite team time trials at the 2016 UCI Road World Championships. This decision means that men and women across all disciplines and categories now benefit from equal prize money at all UCI World Championships.

This decision was made at the governing body’s second Code of Ethics meeting of the year, where the Management Committee adopted a revised and strengthened code of Ethics document.

In addition to the equal prize purse at world championships events, the committee decided that the rider completing the fastest lap at each race of the upcoming 2016-17 Telenet UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup will receive prize money, equal for men and women.

Other agenda items included the addition of experienced professionals independent from the sport of cycling to the UCI Ethics Commission membership; the approval of a revised Constitution which includes, for the first time, term limits for the UCI President; a briefing on tech fraud testing and a review of the UCI’s rider security action plan, which includes recently introduced rules governing motorcycle rider and car driver behaviour.

The new UCI Code of Ethics will be published shortly on the UCI website.
