Two weeks after his crash at Liège-Bastogne-Liège which left him with multiple serious injuries including a collapsed lung and fractured scapula, Julian Alaphilippe tweeted an update on his condition on Saturday morning.

“Hello everyone, after a few days, I’m happy to give you some news. My recovery is going well and the pain is less severe. I breathe much better and everything is going in the right direction,” he said.

“I hope that soon this crash will be nothing more than a bad memory. I wanted to thank you for your many messages of support which have touched me a lot during the last 10 days, and all the people involved of course.”

The 29-year-old is due to start the Tour de France on the 1st of July but says that further testing will “decide the rest of my season.”

“The next tests will decide the rest of my season. Already motivated for the rest and looking forward to seeing you again. For now, I’m enjoying my little family as much as possible,” he added.

Yesterday, Alapilippe’s compatriot, Romain Bardet, who stopped to help the world champion in Liège-Bastogne-Liège received a Fair Play award before stage 1 of the Giro d’Italia for his actions.
