Stage 5 was not a good day for Jumbo-Visma, and Primož Roglič came off worst, dislocating his shoulder on the approach to sector 5 and shedding time.
Luckily, I’m still here,” Roglič told media. “I didn’t see really good, but I think a motor touched the protection and it slid into the middle of the road. I couldn’t put [my shoulder] back in on the road so I needed to sit on the chair of spectator and put it back in.”
“A motorbikes drove a bale of straw into the road and Primož hit it full on,” explained Jumbo-Visma sports director Grischa Niermann. “He dislocated his shoulder there. Fortunately, he was able to put it back in himself. But that took a while.”
He was then faced with a lonely chase over the remaining 30 kilometres of the stage. At the time, his teammates were surrounding Jonas Vingegaard who’d had his own misfortunes just minutes earlier.
Roglič ended up rolling home in a group 2:59 after the stage winner, only Nathan Hooydonck at his side. He now sits 44th overall, 2:36 behind Wout van Aert who still holds a narrow lead.
