Sevilla Delivers Rock Racing Another Win in Colombia
Oscar Sevilla had the fastest finish among a shattered peloton that was reduced to 12 riders Tuesday to win the ninth stage of the Vuelta a Colombia and secure Rock Racings third victory of the 15-day, 14-stage race. Due to landslides in the area, more than 30 miles had to be trimmed off the original race route, reducing the race to 86 miles (138.9 km). Rock Racing Team Director Mariano Friedrick said Sevilla was motivated to get in an early move. But Freidrick preached patience.

Legally Speaking with Bob Mionske – Nations within nations
Bob,
My question about the Shootout (see Shoot Out at the UA Corral) is that while the Tohono O'Odham deputy loves to enforce some tribal statute that I have never been able to find that requires single file riding, shouldn’t the Arizona statute that allows two abreast be the enforceable law?

A conversation with USA Cycling president Mark Abramson
It was no surprise to see Mark Abramson, USA Cycling’s newly elected president of the Board of Directors, helping call races at the 2008 collegiate national championships, earlier this month in Fort Collins, Colorado.
A conversation with Georgia Gould
The longest winning streak in NORBA/NMBS cross-country history came to a close this past weekend as Georgia Gould (Luna) recorded a DNF at the third round of 2008, held in 100-degree heat in Santa Ynez, California. Kelli Emmett (Giant) crossed the finish line first to take her first-ever NMBS cross-country win. For Gould, who took eight straight NMBS wins from 2007-08, the rare abandonment came after a frightening bout with heat stroke and severe dehydration.
Bertolini wins a crash-filled stage 11
Italian Alessandro Bertolini (Diquigiovanni) won Wednesday's wild ride into Cesena in the 11th stage at the Giro d'Italia that saw a cascade of crashes in yet another wild day of racing at the corsa rosa. Overnight leader Giovanni Visconti (Quick Step) defended his pink jersey, but only after being dropped twice and overcoming a crash with 30km to go in the 199km, mountainous stage over what were once the training routes of Marco Pantani.

Giro Tech: High Road’s wheels
Those are Zipp 808 rims built onto Dura-Ace hubs on High Road’s TT bikes.
Giro Tech: Kool Stop dual-compound pads
Barloworld uses Kool Stop dual-compound brake pads on its FSA brakes to run on the carbon braking surfaces of its Mavic disc and 5-spoke wheels.
Giro Tech: Bianchi’s integrated seat clamp
Bianchi’s new integrated seat tube cap/saddle clamp offers ample fore-aft and height adjustment. Its clamp can hold the oval-cross-section braided carbon rails of this Fizik Aliante saddle without interchanging clamp parts.
Giro Tech: Bianchi’s fork crown
Bianchi’s duck-beak aero trailing edges to the fork crown offer a unique way to access the brake bolt on a deep aero fork.
Giro Tech: Calcagni’s bike
Bianchi’s Reparto Corse (Racing Department) was once legendary both for quality and style of bikes for its racers, like, in this case, Swiss rider Patrick Calcagni. I’m not sure what the reason would be for this big chainstay cutout, but it sure looks cool.
Giro Tech: Barloworld’s Bianchis
Bianchi has really stepped up its time trial bikes, giving Barloworld a powerful tool for races against the clock. The precise seat tube cutout, deep aero seat tube, down tube and fork, and smoothed head tube trailing edge are big improvements complementing components like the FSA NeoPro crank with solid carbon chainring, and the Vision aero bar and brake levers.
Giro Tech: Mcgee’s bars
After an extended absence, the revered handlebar brand 3T is back in the ProTour peloton. McGee uses a 3T ARX Team forged aluminum stem, its mid-range product, and for the handlebar, it interesting that he would have a 3T Rotundo Pro, 3T’s least expensive bar. On all new 3T products, LTD is the top, full-carbon model, Team is the next model, full aluminum, and Pro is the ground level, also aluminum. In the case of McGee’s Pro handlebar, it weighs 250 grams, compared to 162g and 192g for the LTD and Team models. For the stem, McGee is only paying a 2-gram penalty (advertised weights of 118g and 120g) for not getting the carbon LTD stem.
Giro Tech: McGee’s saddle
McGee’s Prologo Max TR saddle has a replaceable cover. Don’t like the feel or the color? Just interchange the cover; it attaches to the base with Velcro.
Giro Tech: Mcgee’s’s Cervelo
Bradley McGee’s Cervélo SLC-SL didn’t see much use in the Giro, as the CSC veteran left the race on stage 3 with a broken collarbone, along with his Aussie compatriot, Stuart O’Grady. It comes equipped with Dura-Ace, FSA K-Force carbon crank, an Alpha Q GS10 fork, Zipp 404 ZedTech ceramic-bearing wheels with dimpled rims and hubs, Speedplay Zero Ti pedals, Vittoria Corsa EVO CX tubulars, and Tacx bottle cages.
20008 Giro d’Italia: Lennard Zinn looks at time trial tech
Tuesday offered another time trial at the Giro, this time from Pesaro to Urbino. The first half was flat, and its second half climbed about 400 meters, including a 10 percent stretch at midway and a 12 percent section three-quarters of the way through. Riders had to decide if they wanted a full-on TT bike, which would be great for the first half and not so great on the second half, or a road bike with a clip-on that would be sub-par for the first half and shine on the second half?
Police raid Portuguese team
Portuguese police say they found evidence of widespread doping after raids Monday on LA-MSS, a continental team that includes several Operación Puerto “refugees,” wire services reported Tuesday. Police didn’t officially reveal the name of the team, but the Portuguese sport daily, A Bola, reported in its Tuesday edition that Portuguese authorities visited the residences of riders on the LA-MSS team. Authorities said the investigation, which was conducted under the national anti-doping council and the national anti-corruption bureau, is ongoing.
Hushovd wins in Catalunya – again
Thor Hushovd (Crédit Agricole) powered to his second consecutive victory Tuesday to conserve his lead at the 88th Volta a Catalunya in Spain. A winner of Monday’s opening prologue, Hushovd out-kicked Bernard Eisel (High Road) to sprint to victory in the 167.8km stage from Riudellots de la Selva to Banyoles. Hushovd widened his grip on the overall leader’s jersey to second-place George Hincapie (High Road) by 10 seconds thanks to a finish-line bonus.
Lampre’s Bruseghin triumphs, while Contador positions himself for a podium run.
Marzio Bruseghin (Lampre) might raise Italian donkeys, but he rode like a thoroughbred in Tuesday’s rainy and very difficult 39.4-kilometer to upset the favored Andreas Klöden (Astana). The 33-year-old Bruseghin, who has more than a dozen donkeys and grows wine grapes on his farm in Vittorio Veneto, surged to just his third career victory in impressive fashion. The veteran Italian relegated the heavily favored Klöden to third by 40 seconds, but the real surprise was the second-place ride at just eight seconds off the pace by the injured Alberto Contador (Astana).

Emmett, Taberlay Claim NMBS win in Santa Ynez
Kelli Emmett (Giant) took her first-career National Mountain Bike Series cross-country win at the third round of the 2008 series, held May 17-18 at the Chamberlain Ranch in Santa Ynez, California. Visiting Australian Sid Taberlay (Avanti) took his first NMBS victory in the men’s race. Both events saw riders tackle the course in 100-degree heat.
Emmett’s victory marked the end of the NMBS winning streak of Georgia Gould (Luna), whose eight-round streak dates back to March of 2007.
