Alexis Rhodes (Vera Bradley Foundation) attacked solo with three laps remaining and rode away from what remained of a decimated field for the victory in the women’s race.
Cadel Evans (BMC) is back in the pink jersey for the first time since he held it late in the 2002 Giro d’Italia. Evans was a relative newcomer to the road scene when he took the maglia rosa back then, only to lose it the next day in an infamous collapse in stage 17 to Folgaria. Racing the Giro for the first time since then, Evans says he’s now a different rider.
Garmin-Transitions scored a huge victory Sunday with Tyler Farrar’s victory in the second stage at the Giro d’Italia. Not only did Farrar prove yet again he’s a world-caliber sprinter, it also confirmed the team’s commitment to building a stronger team around the 25-year-old’s growing confidence.

American-based BMC Racing is aiming to bring world champion Cadel Evans overall victory at the Giro d’Italia this month, but the country’s only Pro Continental team will also be sending a powerful squad to the Amgen Tour of California in search of stage wins. Leading that team will be U.S. national champion George Hincapie.
Race organizer AEG Sports announced the starting rosters Friday for the 2010 Amgen Tour of California. The 16-team competition will include seven ProTour squads.
