Memorial Fund established for fallen cyclists’ wife, newborn son
It’s been half a year since Mike Janelle died in his sleep of sudden heart failure at his home in Vail, Colorado. A favorite in the mountain and endurance road cycling communities, Janelle was known just as well for his wide smile and large personality as his tenacious racing style. He was a member of three winning Race Across America teams and recorded a plethora of victories in Rocky Mountain-region mountain bike races. Just 40, Janelle passed away five months before the birth of his son, Mike Jr., who was born on April 7.

Fixed gear team to take on RAAM
The Adventures for the Cure (AFC) cycling team has entered the four-man relay category for the world’s longest bicycle race, the Race Across America, known simply as “RAAM.” This race has been called the world’s toughest bicycle race, covering over 3,000 miles from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD. The route is 1,000 miles longer than the 2008 Tour de France, and contains more than 100,000 feet of climbing. The race begins on June 11, 2008, in Oceanside, and ends on approximately June 18th in Annapolis.

For the first time in its history, the women’s field at Minnesota’s Nature Valley Grand Prix, part of the Great River Energy Bicycle Festival, has filled and registration has been closed early. At 145 riders, the Nature Valley Grand Prix field is likely to be the largest women’s race of the year, compared with 140 for the Montreal World Cup, 120 for the Liberty Classic and 84 for the Mount Hood Classic.
