Hilton Clarke scored the first major win for his Bahati Foundation team in the Incycle/Cannondale Old Town Grand Prix criterium Sunday evening, the final stage of the San Dimas Stage Tace. Clarke, overall winner at San Dimas in 2002, beat out Alejandro Borrajo (Jamis-Sutter Home) and Raymond Kreder (Holowesko Partners) for the stage 3 win.
Bill Demong, who won gold and silver medals in the Nordic combined at Vancouver, is the guy who rode double with Chris Horner at the 2008 Cascade Classic. But he'd like to be known for more in the cycling world.

Local rider Jens Mouris of Vacansoleil broke from a 15-rider group in the final kilometers to take an 11-second solo win at the Dutch one-day Ronde van het Groene Hart. Belgian Nico Eckhour (An Post-Sean Kelly) won the field sprint for second, followed by Sep Vanmark (Topsport Vlaanderen).

Former world time trial champion and Tour de France stage winner Santiago Botero of Colombia won a gold medal in the individual time trial at the South American Games in Medellin, Colombia, Wednesday. Botero, racing for the Colombian national team, rode the 40km course in 49:04.055, beating second-placed Matias Medici of Argentina by 21 seconds.

The world’s best professional women’s team will take the start Friday at the San Dimas Stage Race. After camp in the team’s NorCal hometown of San Luis Obsipo, HTC-Columbia prepared for San Dimas and the Redlands Bicycle Classic before heading to Europe.
The Redlands Bicycle Classic launches the 2010 National Racing Calendar March 25-28. Race promoters have released the preliminary start lists for men and women.

While U.S. pros have shown up in big numbers to regional races over the last two weeks, the U.S. domestic season gets underway in earnest this week as the San Dimas Stage Race runs Friday – Sunday in San Dimas, California. The three-stage race is the final tuneup ahead of the NRC opener in Redlands, California, a week later.

BMC will be led by Italian Alessandro Ballan, who preceded Evans as world champion in 2008, with American George Hincapie, Dutchman Karsten Kroon and German Marcus Burghardt expected to play key roles. Americans Jeff Louder and Brent Bookwalter also will start.

Russia's Mikhail Ignatiev won the 134 kilometer sixth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, between Montecosaro and Macerata on Monday. The Katusha rider was followed across the line by Italian Stefano Garzelli (Acqua & Sapone) with Australian Cadel Evans (BMC) in third. Italy's Michele Scarponi, riding for the Androni team, retained his lead in the overall standings.

Organizers of the Amstel Gold classic have announced the last of six wildcard teams invited to the April 18 event. Twenty four teams will participate. The new wildcard teams announced Monday by race director Leo van Vliet are Cervelo TestTeam, BMC Racing Team, Topsport Vlaanderen and Landbouwkrediet. Earlier, the Dutch pro continental teams Skil-Shimano and Vacansoleil received a wildcard.
Fly V Australia scored a second stage win at the Tour of Murrieta Sunday as Alessandro Bazzana took the victory in the 60-mile Rabobank Circuit Race ahead of teammate Jonathan Cantwell. Karl Menzies (UnitedHealthcare p/b Maxxis) finished third on the day to secure the overall win in the three-day omnium. In the women's race Kathryn Donovan of host club INCYCLE/SC Velo won the stage while Lauren Tamayo and Shelley Evans finished with the same number of omnium points.

Lindsey Wilson College and Marian University continued a heated rivalry in the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference, exchanging victories throughout DePauw’s road race, team time trial and criterium. Despite the dominance of these teams, Michigan State University, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and Indiana University also demonstrated commendable performances, nabbing several top positions across categories.
Two crash-marred criteriums hosted by the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado made up the second Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference race weekend. Despite dry weather and relatively tame courses, a number of categories saw their results dictated by late tumbles; only the men’s A and women’s B field made it through the final laps of each race unscathed.
