UnitedHealthcare maintained its grip on the USA CRITS Speed Week standings by finishing first and second in Tuesday’s Coastal Empire Cycle Fest in Tybee Island, Georgia.

Carlos Alzate beat teammate Hilton Clarke by more than 30 seconds to claim victory in the race, the third in the Speed Week lineup. Placing third was David Guttenplan (AG Bicycles-Guttenplan Coach).

Alzate finished second in the series opener, Saturday’s Terrapin Twilight Criterium, but UnitedHealthcare rebounded for Sunday’s Historic Roswell Criterium to sweep the podium.

In the women’s race, Laura Brown (Colavita-Fine Cooking) out-sprinted Erin Silliman (Fearless Femme-Pure Energy) for the victory. Whitney Schultz (SkiNourishment-Paceline Pro) was two seconds back in third.

Erica Allar (Care4Cycling-Solomon Corp), who won the first two races, placed fifth Tuesday night.

Speed Week resumes with Wednesday’s Downtown Walterboro Criterium in South Carolina.
