Boom, Nys take national titles
Lars Boom (Rabobank) took an important step toward the defense of his world cyclocross title, winning the Dutch national championship in Huijbergen on Sunday. Boom beat Thijs Al and veteran Richard Groenendaal in his first major race since injuring his elbow in a big crash in late December. In Belgium, former world champion Sven Nys defended his national title, outsprinting Niels Albert and Kevin Pauwels in Ruddervoorde. Both Boom and Nys are considered favorites for the world title in the upcoming championships on February 1 in Hoogerheide, in The Netherlands.
In Switzerland, Christian Heule won ahead Simon Zahner and Lukas Flckiger and in France, Francis Mourey (Franaise des Jeux) won ahead of Steve Chainel and Julien Belgy.
In Denmark, Joachim Parbo won ahead of Christian Poulsen and Tommy Moberg Nielsen.
In the Czech Republic, Zdenek Stybar won ahead of Radomir Simunek, Jr., and Petr Dask.
Daphny Van den Brand won the women’s championships in the Netherlands, ahead of Myriam Melchers and Saskia Elemans.
In Belgium, Joyce Vanderbeken won the women’s championship ahead of Sanne Cant and Veerle Ingels.
