Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) won the opening stage of the Dutch Eneco Tour on Monday over Arnaud Demarre (FDJ-BigMat). Fresh off two fourth-place finishes at the Olympic Games, American Taylor Phinney (BMC Racing) was third.
The stage marked the return to racing for Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank), whose suspension for a doping offense at the 2010 Tour de France ended Sunday.
