MADRID (AFP) — Simon Spilak (Katusha) rode to a solo victory on Saturday at the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain.

American Peter Stetina (Garmin-Sharp) finished third, just behind runner-up Igor Anton (Euskaltel-Euskadi), in the 181.3km race between Estella and El Puy.

Spilak was part of a 12-man break that formed 112km into the race. He went it alone on the Lezaun climb and rode solo to the line, 1:32 ahead of Anton and a further two seconds up on Stetina.
