Kanstantsin Siutsou (Sky) out-climbed the peloton to win stage 2 of the Giro del Trentino on Wednesday.
The Belarusian finished four seconds ahead of Mauro Santambrogio (Vini Fantini-Selle Italia) and 19 seconds faster than both Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) and Bradley Wiggins (Sky). Nibali and Wiggins are contenders for the overall win at the four-day race.
Maxime Bouet (Ag2r La Mondiale), who won stage 1a Tuesday morning, is back in the race lead after losing it in the stage 1b team time trial. Siutsou is second and Pavel Kochetkov (RusVelo) is third. Wiggins and Nibali have the same time as Bouet and are fourth and fifth.
Wednesday’s 225-kilometer route featured two Category 1 climbs — one midway through and another at the finish.
Action resumes Thursday with the 176km stage 3.
