PARIS (AFP) — American outfit Trek – Segafredo is placing its faith in experience at the Tour de France with a team announced Monday led by time-trial specialist Fabian Cancellera.
The 35-year-old Swiss veteran is competing for the last time in the race before retirement. He has seven stage wins to his name.
Cancellera is joined by Spain’s Haimar Zubeldia, for whom this is a 15th appearance in the race, Markel Irizar, Frank Schleck, and Gregory Rast, all of whom are over 35.
Dutch rider Bauke Mollema, sixth overall in 2013, will also be wearing the American team’s colors when the Tour starts at Mont Saint Michel.
American fans will also cheer the return of Peter Stetina, who missed last year’s race due to a serious injury, and will be one of the five U.S. riders to toe the line Saturday.
