PLATEAU DE BEILLE, France (AFP) — Colombian Rigoberto Uran boosted the fortunes of British outfit Team Sky by taking over the Tour de France white jersey after the tough 14th stage on Saturday.
Uran, who is racing his second Tour, took the lead of the competition for the best placed rider aged 25 or under from Frenchman Arnold Jeannesson of FDJ.
The Colombian impressed by finishing the 168.5km stage in a group containing yellow-jersey favorites Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Sungard), Andy and Fränk Schleck (Leopard-Trek) and Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team).
Uran now leads the white-jersey competition by 1:07 over Rein Taaramae (Cofidis). Jeannesson dropped to fourth at 2:10.
Team Sky started the Tour confident that team leader Brad Wiggins could challenge for the yellow jersey only to see the Londoner to crash out of the race in the first week.
