We’ve already seen crazy fast new bikes (Cannondale), groundbreaking new MIPS helmets (Giro), this launch season. What’s a humble alloy bar or new carbon seat post got to do to get some love? Zipp’s just announced new Service course bars and seat posts won’t get the same reach online, but will undoubtedly find their way to more riders than any $11000 aero road bike.

Zipp Service Course SL Alloy Seat Post
The new Zipp Service Course SL seat posts put lightweight carbon well under the $200 mark. These new posts in 27.2, 31.6 and even 25.4mm diameters have been tuned for more compliance with an eye to all the mixed surface riding drop bar bikes are seeing. Zipp is offering a zero set back and a 20mm set back post and all come in 400mm lengths, which makes the weight, just 240grams for the zero offset and 249grams for the 20mm offset, even more impressive. With 100mm of insertion needed for safety, Zipp knows many riders will cut the post down saving even more weight. What we love is a two bolt clamp that is fairly easy to adjust, but best of all, the clamp works with both alloy and carbon rails.

Zipp Service Course 70 Bars
As brake hoods expanded, bar reach was slow to adjust, until the first Zipp Service Course SL 70 bars with their 70mm reach and 128mm drop. It immediately became a favorite of riders and fitters, finding a sweat spot for many riders with a stiff, light and relatively inexpensive bar.
The latest iteration of Service Course bars – SL-70, SL-70 Ergo, 70 Ergo – keep the all important reach and drop numbers, the radius of the drop now matches the carbon SL-70 bars providing more hand positions for more riders in the drops. On the ovalized tops of the Ergo version the tops get a three degree inward seep to free up room for your wrists while in the drops. It makes a big difference while sprinting in an aggressive, low position. The Ergo bars are now also clip on compatible in sizes 40cm and up. Just when we all thought clip-on aero bars were dead, gravel racing is bringing them back! The new bars also add a small hole just inboard from the bar end incase you run the wired Di2 stuff from SRAM’s nemesis and want to pop the junction box in the bars.
