UTRECHT, Netherlands — Katusha riders were seen riding new aero helmets from Giro at stage 1 of the Tour de France on July 4. The new helmets feature a slightly wider profile than most typical designs, but perhaps the most noticeable difference is the wrap-around visor that seems to extend almost past the ears on either side of the helmet.

The front of the helmet extends slightly over the visor as well, eschewing the more streamlined design of most typical TT helmets. The wraparound lens features small vents, though the rest of the helmet is solid with no vents, so airflow is likely to be minimal over the rider’s head.

A truncated aero tail tapers off the back of the helmet and a soft underside flexes slightly with the rider’s head.

BMC riders were also spotted wearing the new helmet.

No information was immediately available from Giro about the new lid.
