2015 Velo Awards: Speedplay is better late than never
It took Speedplay a painfully long time to launch its new mountain bike pedal, the Syzr. Now we'll see if it's worth the wait.

Restaurants and hotels have their soft openings. Software designers have beta versions. Broadway plays have previews. They’re all more or less the same thing — test runs before the official unveiling that they use to work out the kinks. They usually last for days or maybe a few weeks.
So what do we call Speedplay’s five-year, is-it-real-or-isn’t-it rollout of the Syzr mountain bike pedal? Speedplay calls it due diligence. The company says that’s how long it took to create a truly unique and durable mountain bike pedal that overcomes the stability problems of other pedals while still offering the adjustability Speedplay is known for.
Better or worse? We don’t know yet. But at least it’s finally here.
