Kask’s Rex is a perennial favorite at VeloNews for its light weight and comfortable fit. And perhaps more importantly, the Rex is super-airy, making it a go-to helmet for hot weather rides.

It’s a fairly low-profile lid with a two-position visor that accommodates goggles. (There’s also a goggle retention system at the helmet’s rear.) It looks low-profile, complementing its light weight. That weight savings and shape is due in part to the absence of a MIPS liner. If you’re a MIPS devotee, you’re out of luck here.

The Octo Fit adjustable fit system offers a traditional dial adjuster as well as an occipital pad adjustment to accommodate a wide variety of head shapes. The faux-leather chin strap sits comfortably under the chin once it’s broken in, which can take several rides. It’s also more comfortable than a typical Nylon strap and buckle, and Kask says it reduces irritation.

With 20 vents, air flows well through the front of the helmet and out the rear. We can think of few true mountain bike helmets that can compete with the Rex’s cooling.

We hope you enjoyed this online gear selection. For the complete VeloNews Buyer’s Guide, which is only available in the magazine, subscribe to VeloNews, visit your local newsstand, or buy the single issue.
