Pro bike: Alberto Contador’s Specialized Shiv

Just hours after being cleared by the Spanish Cycling Federation, Alberto Contador took the start line at the Volta ao Algarve. On stage 5, he piloted his new Specialized Shiv to 15th place, 45 seconds behind stage winner Tony Martin.

The five-time grand tour winner has always been impressive in races against the clock. While his debut ride may have lacked some punch, his Specialized Shiv is nonetheless impressive. His personal mechanic, Faustino Munoz Camlion, obsesses over the details on Contador’s bike and it shows. Custom arm rests, special cables and tape over water bottle bosses and chainring bolts are all signs of a “no stone left unturned” approach to bike tuning.
