The entire Cameron Jones story is wild. The New Zealander came to the 2025 Unbound Gravel looking for a wildcard selection to get into the Life Time Grand Prix, just over a year after making his mark at the Sea Otter Classic Gravel race by placing eighth amongst a stacked roster. A win at Unbound Gravel shocked everyone, but his 8:37:09 finish shattered the previous record set by Lachlan Morton.
By how much did he beat Morton’s course record? Try 34 minutes, an absolutely ridiculous number over the 200 miles of dirt, mud, and rocks of the Flint Hills in Kansas.
By the end, he did it all with a smile aboard the Scott Addict Gravel. Here’s what his post-race bike setup looks like, and what he did with tech to break the record and secure a wild card slot in the Life Time Grand Prix.

The tire combo is set up the opposite of what one might choose otherwise – knobby rear, slick front – but Jones’ clear handling chops in the corners made it all work. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)Not much clearance up front past this 50 mm tire, but it obviously didnt’ matter for Jones this weekend. That includes a set of multi-tools and a Syncros mini hand pump. (Photo: Alvin Holbrook/Velo)Jones was one of just a few Elite athletes using a saddle bag.
