June 15, 2016 – For the letter J in our A-to-Z countdown to the 2016 Tour de France (#TDF2016) we’ve chosen JOIGNY, a town in the Burgundy region of France that has seen just one stage finish at the Tour.

That was in 2007 when a hectic, slightly downhill field sprint was taken by Norway’s Thor Hushovd, who just pipped South Africa’s Robbie Hunter (in red on left) ahead of Spain’s Oscar Freire (in orange) and Germany’s Erik Zabel (in blue).
Hunter joined Hushovd, Freire and Zabel as a Tour stage winner later in the race at Toulouse. Joigny, which sits on the Yonne River, boast a fine vin gris, an unusual rosé wine made from black grapes such as pinot noir.
Nearby, the next day’s stage started in Chablis, one of Burgundy’s keynote white wines.
