The 2014 Vuelta a España was one of the most exciting three-week races last year, with Froome vs. Contador vs. Quintana & Valverde vs. Rodriguez, it quickly had a climbers appeal that none of us would have expected before the Tour de France.
This year, we have the classic World-Tour line up, and we have a very strong selection of Pro Continental teams that are going to bring a mix of Tour, Giro, and Vuelta. Team Colombia has always made the Giro d’Italia exciting, and when they weren’t selected for the race this year, many of us couldn’t believe the biggest stage animators wouldn’t be there. But, they will be at the 2015 Vuelta, and mixing up the stages.
Caja Rural, like Team Colombia, will be at the races and likely be challenging their Colombian counterparts in the Mountains.
Last but not least, we are hoping Thomas Voekler will be there, becuase we happen to enjoy the faces, and it would be great to see Tommy attacking the peloton incessantly in the mountains. With a Tour de France debut, MTN-Qhubeka is also on the radar, having a successful year in 2014 at La Vuelta, we can only expect grand performances in this year’s edition.
We can’t leave out Cofidis, who happen to have a very strong battalion of riders this season, and will undoubtedly have their sprint-star Nacer Bouhanni stabbing at stage wins.
