A 50-miler is now on the menu at the Kenda Cup West Series cross-country finals in Big Bear California.

On June 19, the “Big Bear 50” will do two 25 mile laps of the long cross-country course of the US Cup event. With more than 3,000 feet of climbing per lap, the Big Bear 50 will offer endurance racers a wide variety of terrain and a challenging course profile, said US Cup Vice President Ty Kady.

“We are looking to offer the endurance niche of the mountain bike community something at our cross-country series finals,” Kady said. “Logistically it was  fairly straight forward to add the additional lap through town, as well as the additional aid stations and staff, so we thought we would give it a try.”

The course is a mixture of rolling fire roads and flowy single track and will offer racers views of snow-capped peaks, lush meadows and clear alpine vistas, Kady said.

Big Bear 50 participants will start their race at 10 a.m. from the La Montana Restaurant located off Moon Ridge Ave. in Big Bear Lake, California and pedal the paved 2.1 miles and 500 feet of climbing to the traditional cross-country starting area off fire road 2N10.

The Big Bear 50 entry fee is set at $75 and each participant will receive a free event T-Shirt (if pre-registered one week in advance), a $10 lunch voucher at La Montana Restaurant.  Awards will go three deep to classes that have five or more racers and a Pro pursue is set to be announced soon.
