8. Fox Racing Shox

Whether it’s the company’s own offerings, like the revamping of its Terra Logic forks for next year, or its collaboration with the likes of Trek and Specialized, Fox Racing Shox continued to kick ass into 2010.
We said Fox knocked it out of the park with its 2010 F100 FIT RLC. The only question we had after that review was how Fox will possibly improve upon its wares for 2011. That could well be the Terra Logic (check out our review).
As we noted, Fox works with other companies, such as the Specialized Brain Fade and Trek’s proprietary Fox RP-23 DRCV (Dual Rate Control Valve) design rear shock. After a good bit of testing on a Trek Fuel EX, we felt the DRCV worked well to keep the rear suspension light and tight in short travel situations, but it seamlessly opened to create bottomless travel in the deep stroke. We did have to adjust and re-adjust shock pressure several times to dial in most riders, but once adjusted it was a set-and-forget situation.
We discovered great performance as well with the ProPedal. We were able to ride 100 percent with it “on” for stability under power, but never noticed any harshness through rocks. It blew open for automatic suspension without missing a beat.
Here’s to continued collaboration amongst mountain biking’s giants, because the more they work together there will continue to be more innovation.
