‘In’ or ‘Out’ Emails for LT 100 to be Sent by Friday

The notification date for Leadville Trail 100 applicants is slightly delayed, with hopefuls knowing if they are in the high-elevation race by Friday.
Feb. 8 was the date race organizers had scheduled for the automated drawing, the first in the race’s history. But a death in the family of the organizers and the subsequent memorial service on Monday has slowed the selection process, according to Kathy Bedell, LT 100 public relations manager.
“Definitely one way or another [applicants] will hear by Friday” via email, Bedell said on Tuesday afternoon.
The race limit is 1,400 riders, with applicants paying a $15 non-refundable registration fee. If accepted, the entry fee is $275. Bedell said that due to Lance Armstrong’s involvement in the race the last two years and the documentary on the LT 100, Race Across the Sky, organizers will turn away more than gain entry. Asked how many applications came in for 2010, Bedell would only say “a lot.”
“Many, many, many more than last year,” she said.
For 2010, Armstrong, Dave Wiens, last year’s women’s champ Rebecca Rusch and a select group of others are set to race, Bedell said.
