Say what you will about Mr. Armstrong, but he does get attention zeroed in on things.

Take the Leadville Trail 100 for example. Prior to 2008, only the most zealous of mountain bikers were tuned into the high-elevation suffer-fest. But with his second-place finish to six-time winner Dave Wiens in ’08 and the rematch – and his un-retirement from cycling – in 2009, Lance Armstrong’s presence caused a spotlight to be trained on the tiny Colorado mining town and the surrounding mountains.
