Scrub’s Rotors Get Even Lighter

The final weight on the 160mm RaceDay rotor from Scrub Components is a claimed 50 grams — and maybe even a little less.

Scrub Components is about ready to release its newest lightweight, aluminum rotors — RaceDay.

While the big news here is that the final weight on the 160mm RaceDay looks to be about 50 grams, or just under, according to Scrub’s Chris LaCasce, the fashion-conscious will dig that the magnesium center carrier will be available in both white and black finishes and that the custom rolled aluminum retaining rings will come in a range of anodized colors.

For the weight-conscious, the 50-gram stated weight is even an improvement on Scrub’s initial 160mm offering, which weighed at 58 grams. A comparable traditional 6-bolt stainless steel rotor hit the scale at 135 grams.

Meanwhile, for riders who aren’t as concerned about saving weight, Scrub is working on all-mountain rotors. LaCasce said the rotors are still going to be light, but will be a more bomb-proof version of his other offerings.

Also on tap from Scrub is a brake compound that is specifically designed to work with a range of rotors. Scrub’s first batch of production pads will be available around June 1. The pads will work on Shimano XTR, Avid Juicy, Formula R1, and Magura Marta (09+ version) rotors.

LaCasce said the initial product will be a simple, steel-backed pad coated with Scrub’s compound.
