Plaxton, Emmett take first Triple Crown XC
After withering attacks from Sam Schultz and Geoff Kabush, Max Plaxton was able to break away on the last lap to win the first race in the US Cup Triple Crown Series on Saturday. Kelli Emmett managed to outsprint Lene Byburg in the women’s field on the Bonelli Park course in Southern California.

After withering attacks from Sam Schultz and Geoff Kabush, Max Plaxton was able to break away on the last lap to win the first race in the US Cup Triple Crown Series on Saturday.
Kelli Emmett managed to outsprint Lene Byberg in the women’s field on the Bonelli Park course in Southern California.
The cross-country field in San Dimas attracted a total of 60 male and 11 female pros. The same racers will be eligible to compete in short track and Super D races Sunday to earn points toward the H20 Overdrive Triple Crown All Mountain Series, which aims to crown the best all-around racer at three different race weekends spread throughout the nation.
After the attacks from Schultz (Subaru- Gary Fisher) and Kabush (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain), Plaxton (ShoAir-Specialized) made his break, leaving teammate Sid Taberlay to block the pursuing racers before attacking and finishing in second place.
In the women’s field, Emmett (Giant) pipped Byberg (Specialized Factory Racing) for first, while Pua Sawicki (Okole Stuff.com) crossed the finish line a minute later after being dropped in the fourth lap.
