It may be wintry and cold where you live, unless home happens to be Down Under, where it’s prime mountain biking season.
This weekend the Australian Mountain Bike Championships kick off, with 2009 overall World Cup downhill champ Sam Hill slated to race. Australian Jared Graves, who won the 4-Cross at last year’s MTB Worlds in Canberra, Australia, isn’t on the list of competitors. Instead he will be racing at the U.S. BMX season-opener in Reno, Nevada.
Other downhillers include Crankworks 2009 Dual Slalom Junior winner Troy Brosnan and Mitch Delfs.
Cross country racing will feature most of Australia’s contingent from the recent World MTB Championships in Canberra, including Olympian Dan McConnell and highest placed Australian in the under 23 Women’s category, Terri Rhodes. Sid Taberlay, who rides for Southern California-based Team SHO-AIR, is also expected to race.
The championships will be held at Eagle Mountain Bike park and are sponsored by SRAM.
