Build your own CEO. Who should lead USA Cycling?

We’re pretty sure that by now you’ve heard that USA Cycling is searchingfor a new chief executive officer to replace Lisa Voight beginning in mid-June.In a posting on USACycling’s Web site, the organization says the successful candidatewill face a wide range of tasks, including: working with the USAC boardto continue American successes in elite international competition whilesimultaneously growing the sport here at home; increasing the numbers ofboth members and sponsors; and “building the athlete-development pipeline”from grass-roots juniors to elite international competition.OK, that’s what they say – in fact, some uncharitable folks might add,that’s what they always say. But with a new board president andCEO in the house this summer for the first time in a long, long while,there’s a chance that they might actually mean it this time.Well, we figure there isn’t anyone more qualified to define the requirementsof the position than the people who are actually out there racing. So,we’d like to know which characteristics and skills you think thenew CEO should bring to the job and which of those many tasks outlinedabove he or she should tackle first.
