The North American Cyclocross Trophy series is switching its 2010 series finale from Long Island to Massachusetts, the series announced Friday.
The series had been scheduled to conclude with the Whitmore’s Landscape Super Cross Cup, Nov. 20-21 in Southampton, New York. But, because of a construction project, Whitmore’s has changed venues and will no longer be UCI sanctioned. The NACT series requires its races to be UCI sanctioned.
UPDATED NACT 2010 Schedule
- Star Crossed presented by Stanley – A Brand of PMI – September 18 – Seattle, Wash.
- RAD Racing Gran Prix presented by Hammer Nutrition – September 19 – Issaquah, Wash.
- The Great Brewers Gran Prix of Gloucester presented by Addison Gilbert Hospital – October 2nd and 3rd – Gloucester, Mass.
- Colorado Cross Classic – October 30 – Boulder, Colo.
- The Victory Circle Graphix Boulder Cup – October 31 – Boulder, Colo.
- Bay State Cyclocross – November 27 and 28 – Sterling, Mass.
The NACT will now conclude November 27-28 at the Bay State Cyclocross in Sterling, Massachusetts, giving this year’s NACT two stops in Massachusetts, following the Grand Prix of Gloucester earlier this month.
Whitmore’s Super Cross Cup will continue as a two-day USA Cycling-sanctioned event and part of the Champion System MAC Series at a new venue at Eisenhower Park near Hofstra University in Nassau County. The new venue is an hour closer to New York City than Southampton.
NACT director Brook Watts said the change to Sterling is “a natural fit for NACT. Race director Tom Stevens has a reputation for some of the best courses nationwide, the race attracts the cream of the cross field and the timing fits nicely with the season schedule.”
The NACT is at the season mid-point with racing taking place in Colorado this weekend starting with the Colorado Cross Classic at Boulder Reservoir on Saturday and the Victory Circle Graphix Boulder Cup, at the Flatirons Mall in Broomfield, on Sunday.
Wendy Simms (Front Runners-Ridley) leads the NACT women’s standings after four races. CrossVegas winner Francis Mourey (FdJ) leads the men’s standings, but has returned to race in Europe and will not contest the rest of the NACT. Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com teammates Tim Johnson and Jeremy Powers are tied for second in the series.
