Can anyone beat Katie Compton? Will the cyclocrossworld.com keep their Kona-beating streak alive? And what about Todd Wells — how is he going these days?
These are a few of the questions to be answered this weekend as the heavy hitters of American ’cross line up for a pair of UCI races in Boulder, Colorado. Saturday’s Redline Cup and Sunday’s Boulder Cup are put on by Chris Grealish and Denver/Boulder Couriers, the same outfit that hosted last year’s Boulder stop of the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross.
“We’re going on like we’re our own USGP,” DBC owner Grealish said. “And we think we can do all those things that were so remarkable that first time out.”
Last year’s Boulder USGP drew a crowd of more than 3000 to a lush city park underneath the Rocky Mountains’ Flat Irons. Grealish expects more this year. The Redline Cup will be held at the Boulder Reservoir, which will offer up healthy doses of sand and hardpack. The Boulder Cup will be held on a grassy course at the same location as last year’s Boulder USGP.

Two notable riders not yet on the UCI scoreboard are Georgia Gould (Luna), who took second behind Compton both days at the Louisvile USGP races, and Todd Wells, the defending champ of Saturday’s Redline Cup who was kept from last weekend’s USGP by sickness. Both are expected to perform well this weekend.
