USA Cycling announced the names of five men who will represent the U.S. at the UCI cyclocross world championships in the Czech Republic late this month.
The organization had announced its team for the women’s elite, U23 men and Junior men last month.
The men’s nominations contained few surprises.
Jonathan Page (Planet Bike) earned an automatic nomination to the team as the highest ranked American in the UCI cyclocross rankings. Page was a silver medalist at the 2007 world championships. One of his best results in Europe this season was an eighth-place ride in round five of the World Cup in Igorre, Spain.
Also earning an automatic nomination was Tim Johnson (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com). The reigning national champion is currently the second-highest American in the UCI rankings in 24th place.
Ryan Trebon (Kona-FSA) earned the final automatic nomination by garnering the most points in five out of the six U.S. qualification races. Trebon is a former national champion and was silver medalist at nationals last month.
Discretionary nominations went to Jeremy Powers (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale-cyclocrossworld.com).
The 2010 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships will be held in Tabor, Czech Republic, January 30-31.
