Chloe Dygert, a double junior world champion on the road, is set to win her first senior world championship medal today in the team pursuit at track worlds in London. Dygert first broke onto the scene in Richmond last September with her dominating gold medal performances in both the junior women’s time trial and road race.
These impressive results helped land the young racer on the U.S. National Track Team with a shot at the track world champs, where she is racing as part of the four-woman team pursuit squad that also includes Sarah Hammer, Jennifer Valente, and Kelly Catlin.
In the qualifying round of racing, team USA broke the national record by eight seconds and bested heavy-hitting teams like New Zealand and current world record holders Australia. Dygert and team will take on Canada in the gold medal round today, giving the young star her first shot at a senior world championship title.
The race is at 1:20pm EST. Check back for full results and comments from the team after the race.
