A Letter from Velo’s New Managing Editor, Will Tracy

Learn about Velo's direction in the near future.

Hi, I’m Will Tracy and it’s an honor to tell you that I am the new Managing Editor of Velo.

My name may be familiar to some of you already from my previous role here as Content Manager, and before that as an Associate Editor. But my journey in cycling and cycling media goes back much, much further than that.

After discovering the freedom of two wheels in middle school, I caught the road cycling bug in a big way. It didn’t take long for me to cross paths with Velo, and it has been there every step of my journey with cycling, fostering my interest in road riding and later gravel.

From reading back-issues in my local library and checking the site first thing after school literally every day to finding my way into this unconventional career path years ago, I have always relied on Velo as an essential guiding source and inspiration.

I got my start in cycling media in college when I was presented with one of the toughest choices of my life: take an internship with Peloton Magazine riding and talking about bikes, or a job that entailed doing neither of those things.

I think I chose correctly, and I can’t wait to continue sharing this ride with you.

Where we’re headed

Velo has long been at the forefront of North American cycling, and our team of experts continues to carry that torch. As my role shifts to guiding Velo’s direction, here’s what you can expect.

Velo will remain a leading source for the latest in WorldTour and European road racing delivered by reporters and editors with decades of experience. Tune in for the final week of our Giro d’Italia coverage, and of course the Tour de France is right around the corner.

You can expect more North American cycling coverage as well, including gravel races like Unbound Gravel later this week, and domestic racing like the USA CRITS series.

Velo will invest in more and better gear coverage. Because we enjoy riding bikes as much as we do talking about racing, our dedicated tech team will continue to deliver critical assessments of the latest and most important bikes and gear. Our original tech features will explore the latest industry trends in bike gear — do short cranks really make a difference? How wide is too wide for gravel tires? My goal is for Velo’s gear coverage to cut through the noise and marketing spin, to give our community practical, constructive advice.

Ultimately I want the Velo community to grow and thrive. This is a place to learn about all things road and gravel cycling from trusted writers, editors, and contributors, through stories, videos, podcasts, and more. This is a place to enjoy our passion and hobby together.

And in the months ahead, we plan to roll out some new features that we can’t wait to share with you all, including Velo’s very first Field Test. We’re bringing you along as we put some of the latest all-road bikes through their paces.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you out on the road or at a race soon!
