February 14 will be the last day to register online for the first USA Cycling national DH qualifier in 2011.
The Whiteface Mountain bike crew out of Upstate NY is moving west in February to put on the Nevada DH State Championship in Bootleg Canyon, aka the proving grounds at Interbike’s Outdoor Dirt Demo days. Bootleg is in Boulder City, Nevada, just a short drive from Vegas, baby.
The downhill, Super D and DH singlespeed races are USA Cycling’s first mountain bike event of 2011 and are a qualifier for the 2011 gravity national championships. For the first time, USA Cycling is separating the gravity nationals from cross-country, with the downhill events taking place in the Great Smoky Mountains.
As far as the Bootleg Canyon fun, which entails $7,500 in prize money and schwag, mark the calendar for President’s Day weekend — Feb. 18, 19, 20. For more info, check out downhillmike.com.
