With his victory at the Mellow Johnny’s Classic on Lance Armstrong’s Texas rang, Canadian Max Plaxton solidified his lead of USA Cycling’s Pro Cross-Country Tour.
Plaxton (Specialized Racing USA) has a 40-point margin over teammate Todd Wells in the standings. Sam Schultz (Subaru-Trek), Jeremiah Bishop (Cannondale Factory Racing) and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru-Trek) round out the top five. Stephen Ettinger (BMC Mountainbike Development) is the top U23 rider, sitting in ninth place.
By winning the women’s event last weekend, Georgia Gould (Luna Pro Team) narrowed the overall series lead held by Lea Davison (Specialized Racing) to 10 points. Chloe Forsman (BMC Mountainbike Development), who finished at Mellow Johnny’s, is 170 points behind Davison in third. Erica Zaveta (BMC Mountainbike Development) is the top American U23 women’s rider, in 13th place.
In the Pro XCT team rankings, Specialized has a 36-point edge on Subaru-Trek. Luna Pro sits in third place, 10 points ahead of BMC MTB Development Team.
The fifth race of the six-event Pro XCT is set for June 25 with the Subaru Cup in Wisconsin. The finale is July with the Missoula, Montana XC.
