UPDATE: Sam Ruddock has been found alive, according to a statement shared by Lucy Hatton via Instagram story. We will continue to update this story with more information as it becomes available.
Concern is growing for British Paralympian Sam Ruddock who has been reported missing in Las Vegas.
Ruddock, who competes in cycling and shot put while suffering cerebal palsy, has not been seen for close to two weeks. The 35-year-old was traveling to the States to attend the “WrestleMania Vegas,” which took place April 19 and 20.
Police in the UK, USA, and the international organization Interpol have been notified in what is now becoming an urgent search.
Ruddock’s friend Lucy Hatton issued the following statement to Cycling Weekly on Sunday:
“Sam traveled solo to Las Vegas in April, hoping to attend WrestleMania. He was last heard from at around 1PM on Wednesday, April 16th. His final social media activity was earlier that morning, showing him at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop — this is his last known location.
“Sam stayed one night at the Bungalow Hostel Hotel but did not check out and did not return to collect his belongings. Since then, there has been no communication or confirmed sightings.”
Ruddock won two world titles in the kilometer time trial, and represented Team GB at both the London and Rio Games.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating his disappearance. The Lincolnshire police force has launched an active missing person case in the UK.
Cycling Weekly reports Ruddock was last seen wearing a blue shirt, black trousers and a cycling helmet.
Ruddock’s friends and family are urging anyone with information to contact the Las Vegas Police, or to notify friend Lucy Hatton on Instagram: @lucyelizabethhatton.
“Anything, even if it feels minor, just send it over. Everything we can get, we’re sharing with the police. We just need to get as much awareness now,” Hatton wrote.
