With just two weeks left before the polls close on the Readers’ Choice Awards, some of our contestants are in big trouble, while others are running away. Here’s a quick look at some of the early returns.

In the battle between Phat and Fat relating to the upcoming season of Telekom’s Jan Ullrich, Phat holds a commanding lead with 66 percent of the vote, while Fat has just 22 percent. Twelve percent of the voters abstained.

On the question of who’s a scarier driver, Marco Pantani or your grandma, it’s no contest. Pantani has garnered nearly 70 percent of the votes, pulling away from your grandma, who’s received just 20 percent.

Taking a look at who is the people’s choice in the proposed street-sprint between dual king Brain Lopes and track star Marty Nothstein, Nothstein is up big, 66 to 26.

And regarding the amendment to the 2001 Tour de France, asking, “Who should stay home: Lance Armstrong or the French press?” Looks like the journalists are getting a vacation. By more than eight to one, voters think they should take the last three weeks of July off.

Of course with two weeks left before the polls close, all this could change. So if you haven’t voted do it now either on-line or by mailing us the ballot which can be found on page 41 of the January 8 issue of VeloNews.
