Tour of Utah hires Executive Director, Changes Dates
 SALT LAKE CITY (December 27, 2006) – America’s toughest bicyclerace has restructured its management committee to include a newly formed501(c)(3), a board of directors and former Salt Lake City Mayor Ted Wilsonas Executive Director to steer the race to the next level.The race has also changed its date of operation. The 2007 race willfeature eight stages and will run June 30 through July 7. The race wasformerly set to run August 12-19.Since last year’s race, ownership has been transferred to Utah CyclingPartnership, Inc. dba Tour of Utah.  The race applied for and hasofficial 501(c)(3) status pending.  The board of directors is madeup of Greg Miller of Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, Scott Andersonof Zion’s Bank, Jeff Robbins of the Utah Sports Authority, Jason Prestonof Three Peaks Promotions and Burke Swindelhurst, and Ken Louder, CommunityAt Large members.“Being an avid biker myself, I understand the importance of this raceto the riders as well as the community,” said Wilson, executive director. “Our whole new structure makes this a community event.  There areno profit takers.  If we make money it will go back into the raceor to charity.“  I look forward to working with the board as wellas the hundreds of volunteers who will make this event a success.”The Tour of Utah has hired the Exordium Group to lead a consortium sponsorshipdrive to secure nearly $1 million dollars in sponsorship support throughcash and in-kind services.  Signature sponsors who have already signedon include the Larry H. Miller Group and Zions Bank.  The ExordiumGroup and the consortium is already in the market calling on companiesboth locally and nationally.“When we signed on to support the Tour of Utah we believed it had greatpotential in this market,” said Greg Miller. “Seeing it succeed as a world-classlevel 2.2 race.”The UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), the governing body for worldcycling, has officially certified the Tour of Utah for the 2006-2007 AmericanTour.  The race is Category ME and Class 2.2.The 2007 event will again include a Freedom Peloton ride for the generalpublic to participate in with proceeds going to local charities. The Tour of Utah will cover eight stages in the best bicycle racing terrainin the United States.  The mountains and adjacent communities offerracing equivalent to terrain used by the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italiaand other famous international cycling events.Bicycling has become a major recreational and competitive sport in Utah. Thousands have taken it up and besides their own riding have become fansof stage races.  The Utah Bicycle Coalition has put emphasis on bicyclesafety in Utah and the Tour of Utah plans to work with the coalition topromote safety for all riders in our state.The race committee plans to announce the various stages of the racein January of 2007
