Former U.S. PRO Championship winner Thomas Prehn will host a presentation on racing tactics at Sonoma Restaurant in Washington, D.C. Admission is free and open to the cycling community. Attendees receive a discounted dinner and may win door prizes.
The clinic will draw on the insights of Prehn, local elite cyclists Ryan McKinney and David Osbourne, and USCF officials. They will discuss topics covered in Prehn’s book, “Racing Tactics for Cyclists.” These topics include: reading a race to anticipate its outcome, when to attack, pace lines and echelons, blocking, breakaways, avoiding common tactical mistakes, staying informed during a race, and dealing with disasters.
While it’s true that the most physically fit riders will survive most races, they won’t always win. In his own 14-year racing career, Prehn proved that smart tactics can humble even the most potent rival. Prehn won the 1986 USPRO road championship and was a consistent top finisher in US national championship races throughout his career. He was also a member of the winning US national time trial team in 1982. Prehn is now director of CatEye Service and Research Center and president of his own consumer research and consulting firm, Boulder Sports Research.
Sonoma Restaurant is located at 223 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Washington, DC 20003. More information is available at (202) 544-8088 or sonomadc.com.
