Registration for Tour of Utah now open

2009 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah is an invitation-only, NRC event.

SALT LAKE CITY – March 23, 2009 – Tour of Utah Executive Director Terry McGinnis announced today that the Tour is healthy and expanding this year, adding another stage to an already outstanding line-up.

This year, America’s top racers are being invited to compete in what is widely regarded as the toughest stage race on the National Racing Calendar (NRC), featuring more climbing than any other bicycle race in the United States with a prologue, five stages, and 325 miles over six days for a $45,000 prize purse.

Returning to the 2009 Tour will be the 2008 overall winner Jeff Louder, BMC Pro Cycling. “I’m excited to return to the ToU in order to defend my win, said Louder, recently. “It was a great race last year; and the new courses and growing reputation of the race are sure to make ‘09 an even better event. I’m sure the competition will be ready, but I think the BMC Racing Team can field a squad capable of rising to the level we reached last year.”

The Tour is being called a “cornerstone” NRC event by the cycling media, coming at a
crucial turning point in the schedule, one week following the Tour of New York. With six tough days of racing at altitude, it will showcase the talents of the best stage racers in North America and be perfect training for those pros lining up for the USPro Championship in Greenville in late August.

“As with last year’s event, we’re expecting at least 120 cyclists from North America’s best teams,” said McGinnis. “Last year’s race coverage demonstrates the fact that our race draws national attention, top-tier athletes and, as one of only 31 USA Cycling National Race Calendar events, it’s one of the most significant cycling events in America.”

August 18, Prologue Individual Time Trial: Downtown Salt Lake City
August 19, Stage One: Ogden to Salt Lake City
August 20, Stage Two: Thanksgiving Point to Mount Nebo
August 21, Stage Three: Miller Motorsports Park Individual Time Trial
August 22, Stage Four: Park City to Snowbird
August 23, Stage Five: Salt Lake Downtown Criterium
