Americans Abroad: Giro Rosa success comes early
American women take the Giro Rosa by storm. Evelyn Stevens holds the overall lead after four stages, and Megan Guarnier took a turn in the pink jersey.

Evelyn Stevens and her Boels – Dolmans teammate Megan Guarnier started the Giro Rosa in fine form. Stevens won stage two of the Italian women’s race, and took over the leader’s pink jersey. In the first four stages, she has finished in the top 10 on three occasions and holds the GC lead ahead of the first mountain stage on Wednesday. Guarnier also wore the leader’s jersey for stage 1 on Sunday after finishing second in stage 1 to Italian Giorgia Bronzini.
Brent Bookwalter (BMC)
After the first three stages of the Tour de France, Bookwalter sat in 169th overall, 8:58 behind Peter Sagan (Tinkoff), the race’s leader.
Lawson Craddock (Cannondale – Drapac)
The top American on the Cannondale – Drapac team was in 35th place after Monday’s stage 3. More on Craddock >>

Kristabel Doebel-Hickok (Cylance)
Doebel-Hickok was 17th place overall after stage 4 of the women’s Giro, 2:08 behind Stevens.

Megan Guarnier (Boels – Dolmans)
Guarnier, working for her teammate, Stevens, sits in third overall in the Giro, 16 seconds behind.

Alex Howes (Cannondale – Drapac)
Howes spent the first day of the Tour de France in the breakaway on the way to Utah Beach. He and his breakaway companions were caught about five kilometers from the finish. After Monday’s stage 3, Howes sits 184th overall.
Scotti Lechuga (Hagens Berman – Supermint)
Lechuga sits 12oth overall after stage 4 in the Giro. So far, her best stage was the prologue, where she came in 84th.
Gavin Mannion (Drapac)
Mannion is racing the Tour of Austria this week. After stage 2 on Monday, he sits in 60th overall, 36 seconds behind the leader, Andrea Pasqualon of Team Roth. More on Mannion >>

Amber Neben (Bepink)
Neben sits 49th overall in the Giro d’Italia Femminile after stage 4.
Liza Rachetto (Hagens Berman – Supermint)
After stage 4 of the Giro, Rachetto sits 116th overall.
Peter Stetina (Trek – Segafredo)
Stetina is working for Fabian Cancellara at the Tour de France. After stage 3, he is 59th overall.

Tejay van Garderen (BMC)
America’s top GC hopeful in France, van Garderen sits 16th overall after Monday’s stage, 14 seconds behind Peter Sagan. More on van Garderen >>
