Ukrainian Volodymir Gustov will stay with Saxo Bank-SunGard through the 2012 season.
Gustov, 34, is one of the most reliable domestiques in the bunch and rejoined Saxo Bank-SunGard after one year with Cervélo in 2009.
“He is an all-rounder with solid climbing skills and he brings a lot of experience. On top of that he has a lot team spirit and is well liked by his team mates, so I’m pleased we have reached a new agreement for next year,” team owner Bjarne Riis said in a team statement Wednesday.
Gustov played an important role in Alberto Contador’s overall victory in the Giro d’Italia.
“I have had many great experiences with this team over the years, so for me to be able to stay here just makes me very happy,” Gustov said. “I like the setup, I like working with Bjarne Riis and the staff and simply enjoy the atmosphere here.”
In his first stint with the team from 2006-2008, he rode in a supporting role when Carlos Sastre won the 2008 Tour de France.
