Cervélo TestTeam is pleased to announce that two of its stand-out riders have extended their contracts. Spring Classic sensation and Tour de France stage winner Heinrich Haussler (GER) will be flying the Cervélo colours through 2012, while 22 year-old German champion Martin Reimer will stay with Cervélo TestTeam at least through 2011.
“Obviously we’re ecstatic”, said team manager Thomas Campana. “Martin is a great talent, which he has already shown us in his first training camp and his first race. Since he beat all the favorites at the German pro championships as a 22 year-old, the rest of the world knows as well. On top of that, he did a very nice job at our retailer event at the start of the season; his fresh and spontaneous demeanor really resonates with people. He even explained to retailers why they should be very happy with some of Cervélo new frame features, so what more could we ask for?”
“I have complete confidence in Cervélo TestTeam”, said Reimer. “Everybody has faith in me and have given me the chance to show my strength. For the spring classics, which were my main focus, both Roger Hammond and Andreas Klier were two great role models; they have been a big help in my development in this area.”
Haussler, winner of the 2009 Tour de France stage to Colmar, is a very talented rider with special skills for the spring classics, breakaways and sprints. The 25-year-old, who holds dual Australian and German citizenship, impressed this year with a great spring season, that resulted in his leading the UCI rankings for about two months. He also put in an outstanding performance at the Tour de France.
“Heinrich has had his break-through season, with second place finishes at Milan-San Remo and the Tour of Flanders. At this Tour, he finally realized his first big victory in stage 13, after an epic 197km escape in terrible conditions”, explained Cervélo co-founder Gerard Vroomen. “He had already indicated before that he would love to stay with the team after 2010, and obviously he is important to us so we were happy to add two more years to his contract. Heinrich is exactly what we look for in a rider; he is a star himself, yet not afraid to sacrifice his own chances to help his teammates. He is interested in bicycle technology, really good with the fans and as people can see from the Beyond The Peloton documentary, he’s a budding movie star as well. Together with Thor Hushovd who extended his contract earlier this year, Heinrich will make for a strong one-two punch in the classics.”
“I am happy that the Cervélo TestTeam offered me a three-year contract. I feel really confident in the team. Everything is perfect and I very much enjoy being a part of it. I could not have it better”, said Haussler, who will be racing at the Tour of Missouri in early September.
