One-day specialist Alexandre Kolobnev is coming home, so to speak, with a move to Katusha.

Kolobnev’s switch from Saxo Bank to the Russian-backed Katusha was confirmed by both teams.

Despite having one year remaining on his contract with Saxo Bank, team boss Bjarne Riis helped pave the way for Kolobnev’s departure to Katusha for 2010.

“I think Kolobnev will be a good rider for our team,” said Katusha manager Andrei Tchmil. “He’s a strong climber for the one-day classics. He’s already won two times the silver medal at the world championships. I am sure he will do well at Katusha.”

Kolobnev has made a name for himself with shining at one-day international events, including silver medals at the 2007 and 2009 world championships along with fourth place at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.
