Lance wins Tour of Switzerland
Lance Armstrong became only the second American to win the Tour of Switzerland, 14 years after Andy Hampsten took the second of his consecutive victories. In Thursday's final stage, Armstrong finished safely in the main pack, some three minutes behind a five-man break that resulted in a stage win for Oskar Camenzind of Lampre-Daikin. To win the 176km stage 10, out and back from Lausanne, Camenzind escaped with Frenchmen Emmanuel Magnien of La Française des Jeux and Nicolas Jalabert of CSC-World Online, Russian Dmitri Konyshev of Fassa Bortolo and Luxembourger Christian Poos of Post Swiss. The pressure was on Camenzind as the Swiss riders had failed to win any of the previous stages in their national tour. And he made no mistake in the sprint, despite Jalabert making two sharp attacks in the final kilometer. His time gains pushed Camenzind into 11th place overall. The field sprint for sixth was taken by German Erik Zabel of Telekom, who Wednesday took his 16th win of the year.
