Producers talk about The Armstrong Lie — Competitor Radio
Producers Frank Marshall and Matt Tolmach joined Competitor Radio host Bob Babbitt earlier this week to discuss Alex Gibney’s new film, The Armstrong Lie, which opens in New York City, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas, on Friday.
In the hour-long interview, the producers behind the documentary relive the journey from developing an inspirational film around Armstrong’s 2009 comeback to the production of an exposé on one of sport’s greatest doping scandals.
“Alex sets out to set the record straight and tell the truth,” said Tolmach, who confirmed that Armstrong had not accepted multiple offers to view the film.
“The truth is, there’s this whole other conversation, and that’s the way in which the sport and the big world of advertising participated in this. Isolating Lance is not the whole conversation,” said Tolmach. “The number of people that participated in it and built that myth, whether knowing, sort of knowing, or not wanting to know, is a whole thing Alex talks about in the movie and is a really important conversation.”
